Reporter – New Model Adviser®

New Model Adviser® is the leading weekly magazine and website for professional financial planners. As a member of the editorial team the reporter will generate relevant and timely content for both print and online that aims to build upon our market leading position.

In general, your duties will be to write and contribute to the investment content of new Model Adviser magazine and its website, as required by its Editor.

We will expect you to learn about the independent financial adviser (IFA) profession and its specific investment requirements, and to build contacts among IFAs and fund managers. This will involve meeting with contacts on a regular basis, sometimes outside of work hours for evening events.

You will be expected to respond to the demands of the magazine and the website, meeting deadlines and being able to respond quickly when news breaks.

You will write regular news items and in-depth pieces on funds, investments and markets for the NMA website. This will include regular interviews with top fund managers and IFAs about their investment strategies.

The role is primarily based in the news room but you will be expected to go to external meetings and press conferences as part of your reporting role and to build and maintain contacts. Internally you will work closely with the News Editor, Features Editor and Sub-Editors. Outside the company your primary external relationship will be with NMA readers and fund management groups.

Investment Reporter

Your role will be to report on investment, fund, and adviser issues for New Model Adviser®, Citywire’s award winning publication for financial advisers. You will be working in a team of four reporters, each covering different beats. You will be expected to write several features weekly, interviewing top fund managers and leading financial advisers. You will also be expected to write news stories online, and to conduct video interviews in our studio.

To accomplish all this you’ll need to build up a strong knowledge of investment in equities, bonds and other asset classes, and to get your head around the complexities of how IFAs access investments over platforms, through discretionary fund managers, or directly.

All members of the reporting team are expected to maintain contacts by taking initiative in setting up meetings, as well as going to the number of evening events for journalists set up by the companies that you will cover.

You will be expected to become an expert in your field, and juggle the demands of writing for both the website and weekly magazine. You will be comfortable writing across a variety of disciplines – responding quickly to breaking news for the website, cultivating exclusive stories for the website and magazine, writing opinion pieces and in-depth features, or conducting a video interview.

You will also be expected to develop an understanding of the culture of the New Model Adviser® community. You will be given a beat of adviser firms to cover, and will be expected to keep on top of all the latest developments affecting those firms, in addition to your main reporting responsibilities. You’ll also need to be a team player, being adaptable and capable of picking up a story on another beat where required.
